YOUTH DOCUMENTARY ACADEMY FELLOWSHIP
The Colorado Springs Youth Documentary Academy (YDA) is seeking young people from the ages of 14 to 18 to apply for an all-paid fellowship to learn documentary filmmaking this summer. YDA will be offering 9-12 fellowships this summer worth over $3,500 per student in training, equipment, and facilities. At the end of the seven week session, you will learn to make a short documentary film, be exposed to professional filmmakers in the area, make connections with other young filmmakers, and visit local colleges and universities to learn more about careers in documentary filmmaking and storytelling. YDA wants people who are willing to share their stories with each other, who are deeply respectful of others' differences and who will work very hard. YDA website: http://www.youthdocumentary.org/. MEMORIAL JUNIOR MEDICAL SCHOOL (MJMS)
Memorial Hospital is proud to announce a new and exciting program for junior and senior students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who have an interest in a healthcare career. This program has been revised and expanded! MJMS is a 3-day, immersive program designed to give students a full view of the many different aspects of a healthcare career. From physicians to nurses, from rehab to palliative care, students will be exposed to professionals in their field to hear about what the job entails the educational requirements and the “typical day”. The program offers roundtable discussions, hands-on activities, department tours and other engaging sessions to expand their understanding of the hospital environment. COLORADO STATE PATROL YOUTH ACADEMY
The CSP Youth Academy will be June 11-17, 2017. The goal of the Youth Academy is to assist in the development of future leaders for the state of Colorado. Focus will be on leadership development through team exercises and individual achievement. Cadets will become familiar with the basic elements of the CSP Academy through a demanding daily training schedule. The CSP Youth Academy will be mentally and physically demanding, and will challenge all participants. However, fun-filled evening activities are also scheduled. The academy is provided at no cost to the participant. Applicants must me 16, have a minimum 2.0 GPA, possess a valid Colorado Driver's License, show proof of medical insurance, have a doctor certification of ability to participate, agree to a criminal and driver history check, present two letters of recommendation, complete an application and local interview. Each year, the Bill of Rights Institute hosts an essay contest that does two things: encourages students to think deeply about their constitutional rights and helps them pay for college! We call it our We the Students essay contest! And this year, we're asking students to weigh in on the ongoing debate between liberty and security. Here's the prompt: Our Founders believed that the Bill of Rights should guarantee your individual liberty. But how has our government compromised on your rights in the name of security?

This is a reminder that the priority deadline to submit the FAFSA is March 31 for the 2017-2018 school year. The FAFSA is required for grants, scholarships and other forms of financial aid. Please note that some schools have financial aid priority deadlines as early as March 1. Colorado Council on High School/College Relations Volunteerism/Community Service Scholarship:
The Colorado Council Volunteerism/Community Service Scholarship application is now available online. To encourage and reward college-bound youth who likewise are committed to volunteerism and community service, the Council awards $1,500 one-time scholarships to 14 deserving Colorado high school seniors each year to assist with defraying the cost of tuition and fees at one of the Member Institutions.
